Human body is made up average 60% – 80% of water. We need water to keep us healthy and let the body function. But do you know how much of water is sufficient for our body? We do heard experts says that 8 – 10 cups of water is the standard of daily water intake, but it might be not enough as depending on the person lifestyle.
A normal body function adult will lose between two to three quarts of water per day. If living or work in a warmer environment, the person tends to lose more water a day. Athletes is a good example where they need more water to balance their bodily fluids.
Are You Dehydrated?
Major people know that drinking sufficient of water is important, but still many are not aware they are dehydrated. People usually drink water when they feel thirsty, but it’s too late! In fact, you could already dehydrate and lost as much as 1 to 2 percent of water in your body. Sometimes, we drink beverage like soda or drinks with caffeine, we may feel better but it actually doesn’t help on hydrate.
Signs of dehydration
There are several signs of body dehydration:
- Dry, sticky mouth
- Sleepiness or tiredness
- Thirst
- Decreased urine output
- Few or no tears while crying
- Headache, dizziness, or light-headedness
- Constipation
The colour of your urine can reflect if your body are dehydrated. Drinking sufficient water show clear or light lemonade colour. If your urine turns bright to dark yellow sign, you are probably dehydrated. Drinking sufficient water is essential to stay healthy. You may also find yourself more energized as you increase the water consumption. Make sure the water you drink is clean too!
